Quadrante Europa freight terminal headquarters
Verona (VR)
Italy
Zona Agricola Industriale Consortium takes care of town planning and the development of infrastructures for several
strategic areas in the Verona hinterland, where there are over 1,000 businesses in operation. The large, compact block
of the headquarters dates back to the Seventies. All of the reinforced concrete facades of the building were suffering
from a variety of construction problems demanding the application of a new ventilated skin, made partly with Marazzi
porcelain tiles and partly with slabs of Alucobond. The new face has had a major effect on the acoustic comfort
inside and has cut the energy it consumes in summer and winter by about 30%. It has also helped enhance the looks of the redevelopment using a new range of surfaces and colours. Marazzi Engineering supplied the ceramic ventilated wall, secured with exposed hooks, as a “turnkey” solution. It took care of the supply of materials, the final plans and the engineering of the substructures, and also studied the best solution for linking the ceramics with the aluminium parts. The reproduction of the customer’s logo on the ceramic skin demanded special care and a technique based on inkjet printing was used. The redevelopment was completed by covering the walls in the entrance halls and the stairwells of the building with Marazzi fine porcelain stoneware using water jet cutting and fitted without joints to obtain the
visual effect of a seamless wall.
